Title page photo for an article in the December issue of Skating Magazine. The article is about Scott Hamilton, the growing skating community in Nashville (which will host the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championships) and the the Ford Ice Centers in Antioch and Bellevue—home to Scott’s skating academy and the Nashville Predators.
It was particularly inspiring to me to read of the building of the arenas and the resulting rebirth of areas that had fallen into decay: defunct shopping malls repurposed and economies revitalized. If you’ve ever seen photos of creepy abandoned shopping malls you’ll know what I mean.

You will very often find me in my studio in Massachusetts shooting headshots, portraits & creative dance. But on this occasion I was in Nashville shooting an event when I was invited to shoot these portraits of Scott Hamilton.
Nashville is one of my favorite places to shoot and I go there a couple times a year.
“The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is honored to have Kathryn Costello capturing our benefits. Kathryn is wonderful to work with and our skaters, donors and patrons are forever grateful for the moments she is able to turn into keepsake photographs. Having Kathryn as a member of our CARES team by sharing her talents has been one of our best additions.”

The Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer program benefiting the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation hosts events nationwide, and it has been my privilege to work with Kathryn on two of our largest events to date! She connects so well and captures so many beautiful moments of our guests, skaters, donors and public. She has this amazing ability to work in high energy/ fast moving events and then quickly adapt to precious moments with patients we visit. She’s great!
